What affects the price of ceramic coating
- Coating level. Longer-lasting coatings need more prep and cost more per bottle.
- Paint correction. Swirls and scratches are polished out before coating, and that is most of the labor.
- Vehicle size. SUVs and trucks have more paint to prep and coat.
- Extras. Wheels, glass, trim and interior coatings are often priced as add-ons.
- Certified installers. Some brands only sell their top coatings through trained shops, with a warranty.
The low end of the range is a newer detailer at about $45 an hour. The high end is an experienced pro at about $85 an hour who travels to you. Many detailers have a minimum charge of around $150. Prices are higher in big cities.

Is ceramic coating worth it?
It makes the car easier to wash and helps the paint resist water spots, bird droppings and fading. It will not stop rock chips or deep scratches, so it is not a replacement for careful driving or paint protection film.
Why does paint correction cost so much?
Every panel is machine polished, often in two or more steps, to remove swirls before the coating locks the finish in. On a car with lots of swirls that can take a full day or more.
